B90X Day 47

Proverbs 24:11-12

11 Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter,
12  If you say, "But we knew nothing about this,"
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

I think what he is trying to say is "God knows!"

Proverbs B90X Day 46

I have learned that Proverbs has 3 main sections.
  1. Wisdom for young people!
  2. Wisdom for all people!
  3. Wisdom for the Leaders!
Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

Chapter 2 talks about the moral benefits to wisdom. I think this is a chapter to read frequently. There sure seems to be a lot of warnings against the adulteress.

Chapter 2:16 "It will save you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words."

Chapter 5:3&4 "For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil. but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a two edged sword.

Chapter 6:24-25 "keeping you from immoral women, from the smooth tongues of the wayward wife. Do not lust in your heart after her beauty, or let her captivate you with her eyes.

Chapter 7:4-5 "Say to wisdom, "you are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman. they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words.

There seems to be a common theme here. DO WE GET IT GUYS? I can you hear you now. Your saying I got this under control, I understand this, you don't have to worry about me.

If that is the case than why do you think God is repeating this over and over to us. Too many families being ripped apart because a man is thinking with the wrong ______! Even in the church guys.

To all of you that really do have this figured out, that is awesome. Teach the benefits to other men.

Till next time...

Half Way Day 45

Congratulations guys.... We are halfway through #B90X. Way to go!!!! That is a huge accomplishment.

Baseball B90X

OK, what does baseball have to do with B90X?

Nothing really. I just thought I would take a moment to share what is going on in my life right now. I am blessed to be able to help coach my 2 oldest Grandsons baseball team.

The Gators, a collection of young men 6-8 years old who are just learning the game. What a joy it is to teach and encourage these young men. We lost tonight but the boy's played hard and have really improved since the first game. I love being out there with them.

On another note Terri and I celebrated our 33rd anniversary this last weekend. I really have no idea how she has put up with me all these years.

I don't like to preach guys but God is laying this on my heart real strong right now.

YOUR INVESTMENT IN YOUR FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR INVESTMENT IN YOUR WORK.

Day 40 B90X

The reading has really changed as we move into Psalms. I hate to say it but I miss all the action that we have read up to this point.

I am not sure yet how to write about the Psalms. I did learn that the Psalms is split into 5 dominant themes. They align with the 5 books of Moses. I am sure you all knew that but that was a revelation to me.

Sorry guys, slow learner here.

I would love to hear what scripture from Psalms really got your attention. Please post your responses.

Job

The book of Job has still got me thinking. There is so much there that I feel like I barely understand.

Satan hanging out with the angels. Is this just Job's words or is it true that Satan has to be allowed by God to attack us? If so why does God allow Satan to attack a righteous man like Job? Isn't that what God wants from us?

How about Job's 3 friends. They did really great till they opened their mouths. They reasoned that Job had to have sinned to have this much trouble. Yet they spoke without having all of the details. Kind of makes me think of the people who say you have a disease or illness because you have sin in your life. Sure doesn't seem like that is always the case if you read Job. But, what do I know.

I wonder how often I offer advice without knowing all of the details? Probably more than I care to admit.

Anyways, Job maintains his righteousness all the way thru. Chapter 38 was brought to my attention by a good friend. I love verse 3, God is now speaking to Job. "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me."

Then God proceeds to ask Job some questions that certainly put into perspective who I am and who God is.

Friends Day 35

I have read Job a few times and always was focused on Job and his challenges. A little different insight this time.

Job 2:11, Job's 3 friends meet and decide to go and sympathize with and comfort him.

When they saw Job they began to weep aloud, they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. They sat on the ground with him and not a word is spoken. How long did this go on? I don't know about you but I can barely stand 5 minutes of silence. (Unless of course I am in my nothing box)

7 DAYS AND 7 NIGHTS!   Silence, nothing spoken. I guess this was Jewish custom when comforting a friend. They said nothing till Job spoke.

I think this is an awesome example of friendship in a time of need.

So what happens when Job finally speaks? His 3 buddies decide to fix him. Oh, Job, you must have committed a terrible sin. You must repent. Did they really think they understood his situation better than Job did?

I think I need to do a better job of just being there.
I think I need to do a better job of keeping my mouth shut.
I think I need to do a better job of just listening.

Maybe that was enough for Job!

Job Day 35

I really feel God used the Day 35 reading to reveal some things to me. That is why I have more than one post for this day's reading. Read my earlier post on Haman and how rage and pride has such a negative impact on our lives.

For this post I would like you to read. PLEASE

Job 1:6
Job 2:1
Job 2:9 I just had to throw this one in. Great encouragement from his wife!

The angels came to present themselves to the Lord. Makes sense right!

Did you notice who came with them? Satan!!!

Till next time...

Haman Day 35

We read about Haman in Esther chapters 3 thru 7.

I think this guy had a real pride issue. He could not stand the fact that Mordecai would not bow down to him. He was so enraged that he not only wanted to kill Mordecai but to kill all of the Jews thruout the whole kingdom. So the plotting begins.

Fast forward to Esther 5:9 Haman's ego is flying high. He is the only invited guest to a banquet with Esther and the King. He brags about his vast wealth, how the King honored him and placed him higher than all the other nobles. All of this and he still is not satisfied. Mordecai is in his head big time.

This is the cool part. Haman builds the gallows for Mordecai but little does he know it will be used on him.

Esther 6:1   Check this out, why do you think the King could not sleep. What prompted him to read the chronicles of his reign. Thus allowing him to find out about Mordecai.

Rage filled Haman so much so that he could see nothing else.

He was also filled with pride.

They say pride comes before the fall! I got to ask God to reveal where pride is holding me back.

There is a lot more to this story. I would encourage you to read it. 5 short chapters with a plenty that relates to our lives today.

Nehemiah day 35

So what did Nehemiah do when he heard of the disrepair of the walls and the gates of Jerusalem.

He wept, fasted and prayed for many days. Pretty much the same thing you and I would do right?

What's the next thing he does? He prays some more. He asked for favor from God before he did anything else.

Under Nehemiah's leadership the walls and the gates were rebuilt in 52 days. AMAZING

I really admire how Nehemiah went to God in prayer first.

Why does it seem that the men of the old testament had a much more passionate prayer life? I wonder if we are getting way too comfortable with God's grace and have lost our fear of the Lord?

Shecaniah Day 34

Ezra 10:1-4

I think Ezra is a man I would like to know more about. He has led the 2nd group of exiles back to Jerusalem. He is a priest, scribe and a great leader. In chapter 9 he finds out that the people of Israel including the priests and Levites had not kept themselves seperate from the neighboring people. They had mingled the holy race with others.

Ezra 9:3 When he heard this. He tore his cloak and tunic, pulled hair from his head and beard and sat down appalled till the evening sacrifice.

Ezra 9:5 referred to his "self-abasement" Not being an English scholar I had to look this up. Here is the definition:  Humiliation or abasement proceeding from consciousness of inferiority, guilt, or shame.

This was not Ezra's sin but yet he felt deep guilt for the sins of the people.

Ezra 9:6-15 This is Ezra's prayer. Take a moment to read it.

Ezra 10:1-4 Here is where Shecaniah comes into the picture. Shecaniah speaks up as Ezra is still praying. He acknowledges their sin but in spite of this he recognizes there is still HOPE!

He offers a solution and then he does it. Vs. 4 "Rise up, this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it." I got to say I love this. Shecaniah speaks up, offers a solution, challenges Ezra, and offers support. He's telling Ezra let's do what we know is right. We don't need more prayer. We already know what to do. God gave us the answer a long time ago.

I suspect this Shecaniah dude was a pretty good leader in his own right.

Obedience

I just wanted to share something that I read this morning. Straight out of my NIV Bible study notes on Hezekiah.

  • "Past obedience to God does not remove the possibility of present disobedience"

Wondering

 I keep hearing people talk about how the world today is so bad, so far away from God. On the surface I get that but reading the Old Testament makes me wonder;

What's up with all of the genealogy? Was it really neccessary to go over it again in Chronicles?

Why did God feel it was neccessary to repeat things. Did we need all of the details for the temple twice.

If we could interview God,
  • How would he respond to comparing the people of todays world with the people of the Old Testament times?
  • How would he explain the importance of the genealogy?
  • Why is it we need to be told or asked more than once? Especially us men.
B90X has been a wonderful challenge for me. Writing about it has been an even bigger challenge. I am so glad that I am though. It has renewed my passion for reading and understanding. It has also created all kinds of questions, things to research and study up on when I am done with B90X.

What are you wondering about?
