Day 22 David

I think somebody needs to make a movie about David's life. This could be a real man's movie.

God rejects Saul as King and sends Samuel to Jesse of Bethlehem because God has picked out the next King. I bet you can guess by now what is going to happen. God chooses the youngest son, David.

Something about his heart!

So David is annointed and the power of God comes upon him. Next thing you know David is serving Saul as a harp player. When David played it brought relief to Saul.

Pretty good stuff right here. New King serving old King. Do you think either of them knew it yet?

Then comes the killing of Goliath. I still can't get over the picture of David carrying this guys head around with him and taking it to see Saul.

David becomes friends with Jonathan. I suspect that Hollywood would really screw this part up. This is where Saul gets upset with David. It seems the people had a little song:

"Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands."

You think Saul had a little pride issue?

Now Saul wants to kill David. The pursuit begins. God is on David's so he is able to get away just in time. Kind of like the movies today. Saul pursues, David hides, there are battles.  This goes on like a , well at least a few chapters.

The cave scene, David and his men hidden far back in the cave, Saul comes in to relieve himself. (is this the only time this is mentioned in the bible, somebody relieving themselves?) What does David do, he sneaks up on Saul and                                                 kills him? No, he cuts off a piece of Sauls robe. I don't get it.

Again David spares Sauls life. Saul is sleeping as are his men. David walks thru them all right up to Saul. Could have killed him again. Instead he walks off with Sauls spear and water jug.

David hooks up with the Philistines for a year.

These are just a few of the highlights. There is so much more. This could be an 8 hour blockbuster.

Here is the thing that surprised me. This all happened during David's first 30 years. He was finally crowned King of Israel at 30 years of age. This is just the beginning. He would serve as King for 40 years.

Sounds like David Part II may be coming.

Till next time...
