Day 24 Wisdom

I knew that Solomon was a wise man.

In 1 Kings 3:5 God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you."

OK, Right now before you read any furthur, what would you ask for?

Solomon responded that he was but a child and did not know how to carry out his duties. He asked for a discerning heart to govern the people. This pleased God as Solomon did not ask for great wealth or a long life or the death of his enemies.

So what does God do? He does give Solomon a wise and discerning heart. AND God gave him what he did not ask for. He gave him riches and honor so that there would be no equal in his lifetime.

Maybe I should ask for wisdom more often! OK, maybe the wrong motive right now, but I do think there is a life principle here.

Solomon's wisdom was:
  • greater than all the wisdom of the east
  • greater than all the wisdom of Egypt
  • he was wiser than any other man
  • he spoke three thousand proverbs
  •  his songs numbered one thousand and five
  • he taught about plant and animal life
Men of all nations came to listen to his wisdom.

Till next time...
